Program Overview (BScN)
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) (Collaborative) is a four-year nursing education program leading to a baccalaureate degree in nursing.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Collaborative) Program
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Collaborative) Program is delivered through a consortium partnership between Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador (MUN) Western Health and Eastern Health.
This innovative baccalaureate curriculum was developed through the collaborative efforts of all schools of nursing in the province, and implemented in the 1996-97 academic year. Today, this same program is delivered at the:
- Centre for Nursing Studies
- Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, Faculty of Nursing
- Western Regional School of Nursing.
A degree at the BScN level is the minimum level of education for nurses entering the profession. Our program is designed to enhance the opportunities for individuals to be prepared for entry into professional nursing practice. Students may be admitted to the program following high school graduation or, alternatively, students who already have completed 60 credit hours at the university level may be eligible for the Accelerated Option, available at MUN Faculty of Nursing and Western Regional School of Nursing, Grenfell Campus.
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Collaborative) Program was awarded a seven year accreditation status by the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) in July, 2022. This is the highest award given to a school of nursing in Canada.
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Collaborative) Program is approved by the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL). This approval designation assures the public and students that the nursing program prepares entry-level practitioners who provide safe quality health care.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Collaborative) Program – LPN Bridging Admission Option
The LPN Bridging Admission Option provides a career ladder for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) that recognizes prior nursing knowledge and clinical experience. The is a great option for LPNs who are interested in advancing their career. The bridging option:
- reduces the workload, time and cost to LPNs entering the Bachelor of Nursing (Collaborative) Program, and
- prepares students to enter the second year of the nursing degree program.
All students in the nursing program must demonstrate their capacity to meet the entry-level nurse competencies.
